DTS LECTURE

First to break down all the acronyms: YWAM stands for Youth with a Mission, and DTS stands for Discipleship Training Program. 

YWAM is a non-profit Christian missionary organization, equipping and sending people out all over the world to preach the gospel and bring Jesus to the nations. A DTS is the first step to getting involved with YWAM. DTS is about 6 months long, and includes two parts. 

The first part is lecture. This includes 10-12 weeks of training and teaching on a wide variety of things: the Father heart of God, how to preach the gospel to the lost, how to bring Jesus into the seven spheres of society, who the Holy Spirit is, and so much more. I did my DTS in Kona, Hawaii. I did what is called the “Fire and Fragrance” DTS (https://www.fireandfragrance.com), and I was one of roughly 200 students. During lecture phase, I experienced a huge amount of freedom in my life. I had a few physically issues still connected to having an eating disorder, along with a tendency to get anxious and a want to turn inward instead of outward with my issues, and the Lord took all of those things away.

Just took them.

He spoke to me so many times about what His call on my life was, and what I see now is that He was slowly taking these things that were not of Him as I was able to surrender them because I could not fully walk in what God had for me with those things still a part of my life. 

During lecture, I found out (about three weeks in) that I would be going to Scandinavia for outreach, and met my leaders. You are assigned a leader to have one on ones with for the rest of your DTS. You meet with them every week and check in about how you are doing and what God is doing in your life. This was a shifting point for me, as I was given such a safe place to be completely open and vulnerable with someone. This is where a lot of breakthrough came. 

DTS lecture is three months, and we have class Monday-Friday, five days a week. We would have different speakers each week, some of them being : Andy Byrd (started the Fire and Fragrance School), Brian Brennt (works with the Circuit Riders movement), Banning Liebscher (started Jesus Culture), Daniel Kolande (Reinhard Bonnke’s successor and CEO of Christ for all Nations) and Francis Chan (author and well known speaker in America).

Lecture is three months, and at the end, we all head out to the nations to put into action all that we’ve been taught!
